Contribution from philippines
“ The Philippines is a migrant country. 9% of the population are living and working in other countries. Almost a million of Filipinos are living and working Europe as caregivers, nurses and maids. Most of them leave their families and careers behind to earn higher salaries, to send their children to school, to give them their wants and needs while facing racism and sometimes exploitation by their employers and even fellow countrymen.
My aunt is one of those million workers in Europe. This is not only her story but of countless more Filipinos who went to Europe and other countries to chase their families’ dream. This is the bitter realization and the cost that they usually had to pay to reach that dream. A million of working Filipinos abroad and a million of broken and displaced families.
This is what Europe means to me. This is what Europe means for our country. ”
